Build Your Own Portable Voiceover Narration Booth
Here’s a great find from my friend and fellow producer Rick Forester … your very own portable “home recording studio.” It seems Harlen Hogan, a voice-over actor and writer based near Chicago, found that doing voice-over work in hotel rooms could be a bit LOUD –even with pillows and comforters stacked around him. So, instead of giving up the ease of working wherever he found himself, Hogan built his very own “Porta-Booth.” Read about it in this issue of Digital Producer.
And here’s a bonus tip: Hogan also noted that if you absolutely can’t find a quite place to record narration, you can always take a trick he learned from a feature film soundman. One of the best designed acoustic spaces on earth, Hogan says, is the modern automobile! If you’re at a loss for a quiet space, take a ride out in the country, pull over at a nice quiet spot, and do your voiceover work.
